Nursery

The nursery is based at the Highfield Centre, there are three playrooms with outdoor play areas.

Our Staff

Free nursery places are provided for children eligible for Nursery Education Fund, subject to availability.

The manager has a degree in Early Childhood Studies and Early Years Professional Status.  All of the staff have at least a level 3 qualification and some have level 4 or 5.  There is a teacher employed by the local authority to work with the Children’s Centre, who spends time in nursery. Kiddicare also employs Apprentices, who are working towards levels 2 + 3 by day release at local colleges. The nursery has a very low staff turnover and a mix of mature staff and younger Apprentices.  There is a good ethos of professional development with staff continuing to learn throughout their employment.

The nursery has a five star rated kitchen and a Gold award for Quality Inclusion. Fresh food is provided and is cooked on the premises.

Sessions

Nursery is open from 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday, closing only for Public Holidays and for the week between Christmas and New Year. A number of different sessions are available:

Learning

Care, Learning and Play

Keighley Kiddicare uses Development Matters a Non – Statutory Curriculum Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage, and monitors current trends in childcare and education regularly though Ofsted sites and documentation. The Senior Childcare manager has a degree in Early Childhood Studies and Early Years Professional Status and acts as mentor to the staff team, working closely with the nursery manager to determine the observation, assessment and planning procedures and deliver high quality education with an emphasis on language and personal social and emotional development. The nursery manager is an experienced SENCO, she has worked with and supported children with additional needs and their families for many years.

Little Explorers

Little explorers have a playroom, bathroom, milk kitchen and outdoor, they are  a small group of babies and toddlers. The emphasis in this group is for a loving caring environment where children can thrive.  The practitioners have all done training to work with babies and enjoy spending their time with them. The emphasis is on playing and exploring giving the babies and young children opportunities to explore the environment, resources and tactile activities. The key worker system facilitates the opportunity for practitioners to really know the children and their families. Working alongside parents and carers to assess their progress and plan for next steps in their development.

Big Explorers

Big explorers have two playroom a bathroom and outdoor play area, this group is made up of the older nursery children. There is still an emphasis on loving caring environment but more focus on developing learning across all areas of the curriculum. The staff follow the children’s lead when providing stimulating activities and focus on language development . The children learn through play, they learn from the adults and from each other and through group work and 1;1 interactions with adults both indoors and outdoors. The key worker system facilitates the opportunity for practitioners to really know the children and their families. Working alongside parents and carers to assess their progress and plan for next steps in their development.

Partnership With Parents

Keighley Kiddicare recognises parents as the child’s primary educator. Staff have a strong respectful relationship with them and many of our parents  return to us over the years. Staff take time to listen to parents, to gather information and to share information on the children’s progress. Parents are included in planning the next steps for their child’s development both at nursery and at home. The nursery holds an informal parents evening at the end of every term where the key person can meet with the parents free of distractions.

Playschemes

Playschemes are run at the Highfield Centre during school holidays, only closing for the week between Christmas and New Year. There is a limited number of spaces determined by floor space and staffing, it is essential parents book in advance to secure a place. The nursery children who require school holiday care are kept separate from the children of school age for the main part of the day but there are opportunities for them to mix at quieter times as there is a huge potential for them to learn from each other. The playscheme fees do not include meals so children need to attend with a packed lunch. The staff recognise school holidays as children’s leisure time, a break from formal education, the children take a lead in activities and are encouraged to make choices about how they spend their day. The staff monitor their development and progress on a more informal basis encouraging learning through play, interactions, problem solving and research.

We communicate with parents on a daily basis as they drop children at nursery and pick them up again, and in writing to provide extra information. We have a parent’s notice board and each child has a home school diary. Key workers assess children’s development every term to ensure they are continuing to increase their learning.  After each assessment, parents receive a summary sheet of their child’s achievements during that term.

In the baby room parents are given daily information sheets giving vital information about their child’s feeding and routines. For the rest of the children, parents’ evenings are held twice a year, at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms. Keighley Kiddicare is a voluntary organisation and parents can take an active part in its management by joining the Board of directors.

We plan activities that cross the six areas of the curriculum – Personal Social and Emotional Development, Communication, Language and Literacy, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Creative Development.

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage to track the development of each child and to plan for next steps in their learning. With parents permission we  forward information to the child’s next setting.
